From November 25 to 27, the #EqualKyrgyzstan campaign was held across the regions of the country — monitoring the accessibility of the public environment for persons with disabilities.

The campaign was initiated by the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the project “Inclusive Society for Children with Disabilities” implemented by members of the Janýryk National Network. The project is carried out by the “Hand in Hand” Public Foundation, with the support of Fair & Sustainable Development Solutions (FSDS).

During the campaign, dozens of buildings in each region were visited, and participants concluded that many public spaces do not meet accessibility standards, violating the rights of persons with disabilities. People were simply unable to enter buildings due to poorly designed ramps or the absence of tactile paths for the blind.

However, as a result of this initiative, many public, medical, and educational institutions took into account the recommendations and notes for improving accessibility for all categories of citizens. This brings hope for a more inclusive and accessible Kyrgyzstan in the future.
