Osh, Jalal-Abad, Kyrgyzstan – From May 15 to May 18, 2024, the Public Foundation Fair and Sustainable Development Solutions (FSDS) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Kyrgyzstan organized a unique business planning training specifically designed for tour providers and operators from Osh and Jalal-Abad regions. The training was conducted within the framework of the initiative "Provision of Services to Strengthen the Value Chain (VC) in Adventure Tourism" and covered key aspects of successful business management in the tourism sector.
The main goal of the training was to equip participants with the skills to develop effective business plans capable of fostering the growth and strengthening of their companies amid economic uncertainties. A similar training was previously held in Karakol on May 7–8, 2024.
One of the key aspects of the training was its emphasis on an inclusive approach to tourism, meaning the consideration of the needs and potential of all population groups, including people with disabilities, youth, and women. This approach aims to make tourism accessible and beneficial for all layers of society while promoting the inclusion of low-income groups into economic processes.
Developing inclusive tourism also involves engaging local communities and organizations in the design and implementation of tourism programs, contributing not only to economic growth but also to the preservation of cultural heritage and the environment.
“There are many women in our village who want to learn how to run a business and host tourists. I plan to support them by sharing my knowledge and experience — we must support women and develop tourism in our region,” said the owner of a guest house in Arslanbob.
The partnership between FSDS and UNDP Kyrgyzstan, with the support of the Government of Finland, offers additional opportunities for the development of tourism in the country and enhancing its competitiveness in the global market.
UNDP is implementing the fifth phase of the regional project "Aid for Trade in Central Asia," funded by the Government of Finland. The project aims to support Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan in ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth through promoting "green" value chains and increasing the competitiveness of the economies of the three countries.
