Project Goal:
To support the development of national programs aimed at addressing issues related to food security, nutrition, and access to clean drinking water.

Within the project, the Fair and Sustainable Development Solutions (FSDS) Public Foundation assists low-income and large families in improving food production and processing, and also supports local authorities in restoring and enhancing rural water supply systems.

Since the beginning of the project, technical support has been provided to regional and national stakeholders to improve legislation, strategies, and objectives in the area of food security.

Since 2017, FSDS has been implementing a food security project in partnership with state and local actors to improve the quality of nutrition in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

The project provides support to:

  • Vulnerable households in diversifying and processing food production

  • District authorities in improving infrastructure (such as drinking water systems and processing enterprises)

  • National-level stakeholders (ministries, platforms) to further improve strategies and legislation related to nutrition

Key project partners include:

  • Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic

  • District administrations and local self-governance bodies

  • Rural water user associations

  • Public Association “Shoola-Kol”

  • Public Foundation “Jalal-Abad Rural Advisory Service”

  • Public Foundation “Ene Meerimi”

Provision of clean drinking water in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan:

In Kyrgyzstan, approximately 1 million people face difficulties accessing clean drinking water. Currently, many residents of remote regions drink water from ditches, rivers, canals, springs, or rely on delivered water.

To improve water infrastructure and access to clean drinking water, FSDS has been working in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan since 2017.

As part of the project, over 30 villages have gained access to clean drinking water, with a similar number planned to be covered by 2023. FSDS continues to support local authorities in rehabilitating and improving water supply systems in remote villages of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
