December 3 — International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed worldwide.

According to the United Nations, more than one billion people around the world live with some form of disability.

This day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly on October 14, 1992. The Assembly called on all countries and international organizations to cooperate in observing the day.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a powerful tool for raising awareness about the challenges and barriers that limit the rights of people with disabilities.

Each year, this day is celebrated under a specific theme. Today in Kyrgyzstan, it is marked under the slogan “I CAN!”
A festival and exhibition dedicated to the Day of Persons with Disabilities was organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Fair & Sustainable Development Solutions (FSDS) provided technical support for organizing the event.

Let us remind you that the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was ratified in Kyrgyzstan on March 14, 2019.

This means that the government is obligated to create accessible infrastructure for people with disabilities, who continue to face barriers in public environments.
